Executive Officer

Commander Doug Harvey is a native of Warren, Ohio, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University in 1990 and received his commission through the NROTC program. In 1998 he earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.

Following his initial Surface Warfare Division Officers School, he reported to USS Charleston (LKA 113) as Electrical Officer. Follow on division officer tours include Electronic Warfare Officer in USS IWO JIMA (LPH 2) and First Lieutenant and Combat Information Center Officer is USS KIDD (DDG 993). During his division officers tours he completed two Mediterranean Deployments, participating in Operations PROVIDE PROMISE, SHARP GUARD and DENY FLIGHT and two Counter-Narcotics Deployments to the Caribbean Sea.

After completing Department Head School in 1998 he reported to USS DE WERT (FFG 45) as Combat Systems Officer with follow on sea tours as Operations Officer for Commander, Destroyer Squadron 26, and Assistant Surface Operations Officer for Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group Eight. During his department head tours he completed two additional Mediterranean deployments and participated in Operations JOINT FORCE and IRAQI FREEDOM.

In August 2003, CDR Harvey reported aboard USS LA SALLE (AGF 3) as Executive Officer where he participated in Exercise Majestic Eagle, Black Sea Partnership Cruise and numerous Theater Security Cooperation port visits. He then reported to Commander, Amphibious Squadron Four as Chief Staff Officer and participated in disaster relief efforts following hurricane Katrina. As the Squadron transitioned to IWO JIMA EXPEDITIONARY STRIKE GROUP, he shifted positions to Operations Officer and deployed to the Central Command area of operations where he participated in the 2006 Lebanon Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation.

Following a one year shore tour as Force Management Officer for Commander, Naval Forces Central Command, CDR Harvey reported aboard USS MOUNT WHITNEY (LCC 20) as Executive Officer where he participated in numerous exercises including Noble Midas, Baltic Sea Operations (BALTOPS), Black Sea Partnership Cruise, and Phoenix Express.

Commander Harvey’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3), and other personal and unit awards.
