MARINE OPTION
The Marine Corps has been an integral part of the
Naval Service for more than 225 years and is renowned
world-over for its leadership, determination, and
loyalty. From their origins in Tunn Tavern, to the front
lines of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Marines have
earned their reputation as the most effective fighting
force in the world operating ashore, in the air, and on
the sea. Their standards are high-- self-discipline and
initiative are key factors for success in the Marine
Corps and Marine Corps training is physically rigorous
and mentally challenging.
During the summer of their junior year, Marine Corps
Option NROTC students attend the challenging Officer
Candidates School (OCS) where they are trained,
screened, and evaluated to determine if they are capable
of earning the title Officer of Marines.
Upon commissioning, all new Second Lieutenants report to
The Basic School (TBS), located in Quantico, VA, where
each is taught the basics of infantry combat and the
meaning of the phrase, Every Marine a Rifleman.
While at The Basic School, officers compete for Military
Occupational Specialties (MOS) such as Infantry,
Artillery, Tanks, Aviation, Logistics, Communications,
Supply, Judge Advocate General (JAG), among others.
Upon graduation from The Basic School, new 2nd
Lieutenants report to their follow-on MOS schools and
then for assignment to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF).
Marines serve in a variety of sea and shore duties, with
bases in San Diego, CA; Yuma, AZ; Quantico, VA;
Jacksonville, NC; Beaufort, SC; Honolulu, HI; and
Okinawa, Japan.
The Marine Corps offers a career of excitement, travel,
and variety. Do you have what it takes to be one of the
The Few, The Proud, The Marines?
