Description:

The Department of Commerce (DOC) will have internships available during the Fall 2010 Session in its Internship for Postsecondary Students Program *.  Internships will be in the Washington, D.C metro area.  Selected applicants will intern for 15 weeks beginning as early as 30 August 2010 or as late as 13 September 2010.   Internships require either part time (20 hours per week) or full time (40 hours per week). These internships offer opportunities to participants for hands-on education and training related to their fields of interest and those of the DOC.

Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) manages the Internships for Postsecondary Students. Applications will be accepted through 20 August  2010.

 

Disciplines of Interest

Examples include the following: business; economics; statistics; international relations; communications and graphic design; computer science; physical sciences; mathematics; and life, health, and medical sciences.

 

Benefits:

JPMorgan Chase & Co is seeking highly motivated individuals for opportunities within our Technology Analyst Development Program. The description below outlines the 10 week summer internship.

The overall mission of JPMorgan Chase’s technology team is to establish technology as a competitive advantage for the firm by coupling technological expertise with an understanding of our strategic vision. Information technology supports the spectrum of staff functions that lie at the heart of virtually every aspect of our business. The goal of the Technology Analyst Development Program is to introduce and prepare participants for the information technology organization at JPMorgan Chase through a 10 week internship. They will be exposed to different technology areas through varied training and presentations. Summer Technology Analysts join IT teams throughout the firm, which are responsible for designing, developing and supporting the applications or projects that give our businesses their competitive edge.

Summer Internship Details:
The summer internship program is primarily for students entering their senior year of college, with some opportunities for rising sophomores and juniors. The Summer Internship is structured similarly to the full-time Technology Analyst Development Program. The variety of roles offered is vast and constantly evolving, with numerous opportunities to gain technology experience across all business areas. This creates a very exciting environment in which to launch a career. Here are some examples of what you could be doing:

  • Business Systems Analyst – As a business systems analyst you will be part of a team that will identify, assess, and record near-term business needs, recommend business priorities, document business requirements, and provide insight on options, risk and cost vs. benefit. You may assist in project tracking, user acceptance testing, as well as creating and/or providing training for users.

  • Application Development Analyst – As an application development analyst, you may design, develop, code, test debug, and document programming applications to satisfy requirements of one or more user areas. You will translate business and technical requirements into technical application specifications.

  • Application Service Delivery Analyst – As an application service delivery analyst, you may perform day-to-day production support for applications, diagnose problems, and resolve production issues. You will install/remove, configure, and maintain operating system workstations and servers, including web servers, database servers and application servers, in support of business processing requirements. You may also be required to monitor and tune systems to achieve optimum performance levels and analyze system support processes.

  • Locations: Tampa, FL

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate strong leadership aptitude, strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

  • Communicate effectively at all levels, multi-task, and solve problems creatively.

  • Technical skills required may include a working knowledge of C, C++, JAVA, requirements gathering, infrastructure, or server administration.

  • Preferred majors include: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems and/or MIS

  • Strong academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.2 is preferred

  • Self-directed, results-oriented, and customer-focused.
