FACULTY SENATE STANDING AY 1999/2000 ACADEMIC COMPUTING COMMITTEE Charge: Advises the Provost on priorities in allocation and utilization of academic computing financial resources; long- and short-range planning for computer resources and structures necessary to support the teaching and research function of the university; methods to encourage and facilitate the effective utilization of computing technology in the university's teaching and research functions; and all other matters relevant to academic computing. Members must be knowledgeable about computing needs within their units. Chair: Susan Zucker BACHELOR OF INDEPENDENT STUDIES COMMITTEE Charge: Advises the Provost and Director of the BIS program on policies and procedures pertaining to the BIS program; is accountable for the maintenance of the approved standards, structure, and curriculum of the BIS program. Chair: Flora Zbar COMMENCEMENT AND CONVOCATION COMMITTEE Charge: Responsible for advising the President, the Provost, and other appropriate university administrators on matters pertaining to commencements and convocations; providing assistance in planning and executing these ceremonies; organizing the marshal corps for the ceremonies; and recommending commencement speakers as appropriate. The faculty committee members will serve as members of the marshal corps. Chair: Jim Vastine FACULTY COMMITTEE ON STUDENT ADMISSIONS Charge: Advises the Provost on matters pertaining to the establishment and maintenance of policies, principles, and regulations affecting the selection and admission of undergraduate students. Chair: Fredric Zerla FACULTY EVALUATION AND STANDARDS COMMITTEE Charge: Responsible for monitoring, and advising the senate concerning, all matters relating to faculty evaluation and standards. Chair: TBA GOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS COMMITTEE Charge: Responsible for working with the USF Government Relations Office, legislators, and other government officials to provide a faculty perspective and to increase understanding of academic issues. Chair: Navita James GRADUATE COUNCIL Charge: Advises the President, the Provost, and the Dean of the Graduate School on principles, policies, and procedures affecting graduate education at the University of South Florida. Chair: Narayan Halder INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL Charge: Advises the Provost on matters pertaining to the function, policies, and requirements of the areas involved in instructional technology on the Tampa and regional campuses of the university. Chair: William Janssen PUBLICATIONS COUNCIL Charge: Recruits suitable scholarly and creative works for publication and decides which works to support with subvention. Serves as advisory board to the United Press of Florida when subvented manuscripts are published by UPF. Chair: Tom Massey RESEARCH COUNCIL Charge: Advises the President, Provost, Vice President for Research, and Dean of the Graduate School on matters pertaining to policies and procedures intended to promote research and other creative activity throughout the university community. Chair: Mary Evans UNDERGRADUATE COUNCIL Charge: Recommends to the President, Provost, and Dean of Instructional Quality and Innovation and reports to the Faculty Senate on matters pertaining to undergraduate courses, curricula, institutional programs, and degrees of the university.
