COMMITTEE CHARGE

AUSPICES:

The University Honors Program Committee is a standing committee of the USF Faculty Senate and receives authority for its actions through that body.

CHARGE:

The University Honors Program Committee shall serve as an advisory body to the Provost on matters pertaining to the establishment and maintenance of policies, procedures, and regulations affecting the University Honors Program.

OPERATING PROCEDURES:

The committee shall develop its own operating procedures subject to approval by the Provost. Its responsibilities include:

  1. Recommending policies and procedures regarding the admission criteria of undergraduate students to the University Honors Program.

  2. Recommending a University Honors Program Director when the position is vacant.

  3. Monitoring the progression of students through the University Honors Program and reviewing and certifying students' records prior to graduation.

MEMBERSHIP:

  1. Faculty members are to be appointed for staggered three-year terms, with one-third retiring each year. The retiring members may not be reappointed during the year following the last year of their terms unless appointed to a vacancy on the committee. The membership composition of the committee should consist of one representative from each college represented in the Faculty Senate (except Medicine and New College), plus an additional representative from any college having more than 250 full-time faculty members, plus a third representative from any college having more than 400 full-time faculty members, and one member at large appointed by the Provost. In addition, there shall be one faculty member from a department which has an honors program and three faculty members from the faculty of the University Honors Program appointed by the Provost for one year.

  2. The Director of the University Honors Program (ex officio and nonvoting).

  3. The Dean of Undergraduate Studies (ex officio and nonvoting).

APPOINTMENT:

The Provost will appoint the members of this committee.

CHAIR:

The chair shall be elected from faculty members of the committee.
