CHARGE
AUSPICES:
The Publications Council is a standing
council of the USF Faculty Senate and receives authority for its
actions through that body.
CHARGE:
The Publications Council will recruit
suitable scholarly and creative works for publication and decide
which works are to be supported with subvention. to the extent
that subvented manuscripts are published by the University Press
of Florida, the council will serve as an advisory board to the UPF.
OPERATING PROCEDURES:
For purposes of processing applications, the
council will divide into a Print Media Subcommittee and a Nonprint
Media Subcommittee. To implement its business, the council shall
establish its own operating procedures, subject to the approval of
the Provost. In all decisions of the council, a quorum must be
present, and a simple majority vote will rule. The council shall
report to the Provost.
MEMBERSHIP:
The membership of the Publications Council shall be constituted as
follows:
Voting Members
- One faculty member from each college,
with one additional member from any college having more than
250 full-time faculty members. A third member will be selected
from any college having more than 400 full-time faculty
members.
- A representative of the Research
Council's Subvention Subcommittee
- A faculty member from the USF Library
Ex Officio Members
- Provost of his designee
- Dean of the Graduate School
- Dean of Undergraduate Studies
- Director of the Publications Council
Office
APPOINTMENT:
Tenured and tenure-earning faculty members
will be considered for appointment. Special consideration shall be
given to the nominees' expertise in print and/or nonprint media
forms of publication. The method of selecting college nominees
shall be as follows:
- Nominees shall submit vitae with their
nominatioin forms to the Chair of the Committee on Committees
of the Faculty Senate who, with the approval of the Faculty
Senate, will select candidates to forward to the Provost for
appointment.
- The Research Council shall elect its
representative annually and forward his/her name to the
Faculty Senate.
Members shall be appointed for staggered
three-year terms Retiring members may not be reappointed during
the year following the last year of their terms unless appointed
to a vacancy on the council.
CHAIR:
The chair of the council shall be elected by
the members of the council and shall be a faculty member.
