COMMITTEE
CHARGE
AUSPICES:
The Honors and Awards Council is a standing
council of the USF Faculty Senate and receives authority for its
actions through that body.
CHARGE:
The Honors and Awards
Council is responsible for conveying recommendations to the Faculty Senate, the
Provost and President the names it recommends to President and
Provost those whom the members believe to be sufficiently
meritorious to receive various
academic honors and awards granted by or through the University of
South Florida.
OPERATING PROCEDURES:
The committee shall develop
its own operating procedures to receive and evaluate nominations
which normally originate from the university community. These will
include:

Askounes-Ashford Distinguished Scholar Award

Distinguished Service Award
-
Honorary Degree
-
Jerome Krivanek
Distinguished Teacher Award

Town and Gown Community
Service Award

Other honors and awards
that may be established in the future and granted to members
of the university community.
Honorary degree
recommendations must be ratified by a majority vote of the Faculty
Senate, after which the Secretary of the Senate will forward
recommended names and supporting material to the President and
Provost.
MEMBERSHIP:
- One faculty member representative from
each college, campus, and unit with voting representation in
the Faculty Senate plus an additional representative from any
college having more than 250 full-time faculty members plus a
third representative from any college having more than 400
full-time faculty members, will be appointed for staggered
three-year terms, with one-third retiring each year. The
retiring members may not be reappointed during the year following
the last year of their terms unless appointed to a
vacancy on the committee (voting).
- One alumnus, -a/alumna will be appointed for a
one-year term (voting).
APPOINTMENT:
The Provost will appoint the voting members
of this committee upon the recommendation of the Faculty Senate.
CHAIR:
The chair shall be a voting faculty member
serving in the second or third year of his/her term.
