Chair: TBA

COMMITTEE CHARGE

AUSPICES:

The Governmental Relations Committee is a standing committee of the USF Faculty Senate and receives authority for its actions through that body.

CHARGE:

The Governmental Relations Committee is responsible for working with the USF Government Relations Office, legislators, and other government officials to provide a faculty perspective and to increase understanding of academic issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Represent the USF faculty perspectives on higher education issues to government officials.

  2. Enhance awareness of government officials and the public to faculty activities in teaching, research, service and governance.

  3. Provide greater understanding of the unique role of faculty among state employees.

  4. Advise, via the Senate Executive Committee, university administra- tion regarding legislative priorities and other public policy issues.

  5. Advance or promote the placement of faculty on important local and state committees and boards, including the Board of Regents. The Committee will identify the qualified faculty.

MEMBERSHIP:

The committee membership will consist of seven faculty, four of whom will be selected from the Senate and three from the general faculty to serve for 3-year staggered terms. To assure continuity and enhance long-term communication with the legislative bodies, members of the faculty may serve two consecutive terms on this committee. After that time, a period of one year must elapse before a member of the faculty may serve again on the Governmental Relations Committee.

The Committee on Committees will solicit nominations, review them and forward selected names to the SEC. The SEC will review and may interview candidates to select final names to be forwarded to the full Senate for final selection. Membership will be chosen without regard to college or unit representation but must endeavor to include at least one regional campus representative.

APPOINTMENT:

The Provost will appoint the voting members of this committee upon the recommendation of the Faculty Senate.

CHAIR:

The Committee will select a chair from among its members. The chair will become a member of the Senate, ex-officio, if not already an elected member of the body.
