COMMITTEE CHARGE

AUSPICES:

The Academic Computing Committee is a standing committee of the USF Faculty Senate and receives authority for its actions through that body.

CHARGE:

The Academic Computing Committee is responsible for advising the Provost on all matters pertaining to academic computing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The committee shall develop its own operating procedures subject to approval by the Provost. Functions of the committee shall include developing:

  1. Priorities in allocation and utilization of academic computing financial resources.

  2. Long- and short-range planning for computer resources and structures necessary to support the teaching and research function of the university.

  3. Methods to encourage and facilitate the effective utilization of computing technology in the university's teaching and research functions.

MEMBERSHIP:

  1. One faculty representative from each college, campus, and unit with voting representation in the Faculty Senate plus an additional representative from any college having more than 250 full-time faculty members plus a third representative from any college having more than 400 full-time faculty members, will be appointed for staggered three-year terms, with one-third retiring each year. The retiring members may not be reappointed during the year following the last year of their terms unless appointed to a vacancy on the committee (voting).

  2. Ex officio and nonvoting members shall include the Director of Academic Computing, the Director of Information Technologies, the Director of the Central Florida Regional Data Center, and one additional representative from each college, campus, and unit as designated by each dean or director.

APPOINTMENT:

The Provost will appoint the voting members of this committee upon the recommendation of the Faculty Senate.

CHAIR:

The chair shall be a voting faculty member elected by the committee.
