Monthly Meetings

The Central Florida Anthropological Society meets at 7pm the 2nd Thursday

of each month at   Leu Gardens

Human history is a mystery which can enlighten us, and that enlightenment could possibly prevent us from committing the same mistakes we’ve made in the past.  Past cultures could be forgotten if they are not studied and analyzed as thoroughly as possible.

In 1947, the Florida Anthropological Society was formed to unite professional and amateur anthropologists to further this noble goal.  The organization expanded in 1967 by forming the Central Florida Anthropological Society.

The C.F.A.S. presents speakers on a monthly basis, as well as producing many educational events in order to educate the general public.  Florida has been populated by humans for approximately 12,000 years.  Contrary to popular belief, our state was not first populated in 1492.

We couldn’t be more excited if you would join us for our meetings, interact with some of the most knowledgeable people in the field of Florida history, and contribute your talents to our group.  We look forward to meeting you!  -Mike Mackay - past President of CFAS

Annual Walk Back in Time

At Beautiful Wekiva Springs State Park

Fossil Hunter Page says: Walk Back In Time ... a weekend event sponsored and run by the Central Florida Anthropological Society (CFAS). It brought together many different individuals at Wekiva Springs State Park to reenact various times in Florida's history such as the French Huguenots occupation of Central Florida, the Timucuan Indian villages, Florida Cracker lifestyles, and many others.....The good news is that the WBIT has returned! It will be held on April 18-21, 2002 at Wekiva Springs State Park once again..... I would suggest that you mark your calendars right now because you will not want to miss this!

Fossil Hunters delighted that Walk Back in Time is back!

Note from a CFAS Member - Orange County is growing so fast that many valuable Archeological Sites are being built over, and the local history is getting lost. We need to have more people take an active interest in our valuable historical resources. Get involved now! Go to the archeological meetings, get involved with the history museum, take an interest in the city and county parks! You can make a difference!
